Q& A with Glenn from Auto Lube Care
First off, you can turn OFF the A/C and turn ON the heater if you see the temperature gauge rising. This gives the engine another way to bleed off some heat. When it is safe, you should pull off to the side of the road, open the hood and inspect the level of your coolant bottle.
DO NOT attempt to remove the radiator cap as it is under pressure and you can get severely burnt. If the coolant level is low, you will need to add coolant or if you don’t have any coolant it is ok to add water to the plastic overflow container. Do Not drive your vehicle without coolant as it will cause major engine damage.
The coolant level is very easy to check and should be checked prior to a trip.
