A fan of our ventura oil change facebook page recently asked this question:

"How often do you really need to change motor oil?" there are so many articles and reports on this all over the internet. Many new vehicle's manuals now recommend that hey can wait 10,000 miles or more between oil changes!

The Auto Lube Care response:

At Auto Lube Care, we do not sell cars, our highest desire is for you to maintain your vehicle so that you can get the longest usage of it possible. Why keep buying new, when you can properly maintain your vehicle and make your initial investment last as long as possible? Wherever you go for your oil change, we also recommend choosing an EcoQuality oil, which is much better for our environment than oil made directly from crude.

There are too many factors involved to determine one general interval for every driver! According to the Manufacturer there are always 2 intervals one for Normal Service and One for Severe service. Normal driving would be someone who commutes regularly with little to no traffic. Unfortunately most So Cal drivers fall under severe service, Short trips, stop and go traffic, around town driving, and many short start and stop drives. These conditions are much harder on your vehicle. Ford has already released a statement recalling there extended drain intervals due to engine damage. Always keep in mind the car manufacturer wants to sell cars, so if everyone changed there oil every 3000 miles with today's technology cars would last much longer and new car sales would drastically drop. Auto Lube Care still recommends 3000 miles on conventional oil and 5000 miles on synthetic for the typically So Cal driver. There are always exceptions to every rule! If all else fails check your oil every thousand miles, when it gets dirty, get it changed!

If you are in Ventura, you will hopefully visit Auto Lube Care for your oil change!
